SORT by Kindred AI

Kindred AI

Summary of Innovation

Kindred has built an AI platform that integrates vision, grasping and placement to create autonomous solutions for complex commercial problems. With increased labor complexities in ecommerce fulfillment centers, we developed our flagship product, SORT, to help retailers stay competitive. Our smart piece-picking robots tackle a labor intensive part of the supply chain, which is Putwall Sortation, completing the manual task to pick and place items into separate customer orders.

Our first product tackles a labor intensive part of the supply chain, which is Putwall Sortation. It’s a manual task where retail fulfillment workers pick and place items into separate customer orders.

Innovation Statement

Adoption of robotics and automation are the convergence of three key elements:
First, the advances of genuine AI algorithms, built upon the various disciplines like Deep Learning, and Reinforcement Learning.
Second is the heightened consumer demand for more customization and faster delivery, and the massive pressure these expectations put on supply chain networks to stay competitive.
And third is the cost reduction of components that make up the automation solutions - everything from the robotic arm itself, to other electronics such as cameras, scanners and lighting. - all of which provides broad access to these solutions.

With convergence of those three elements, the natural progression is to implement smart robotic solutions that leverage algorithms capable of interacting within unpredictable environments. The likely targets for deployment are those tasks that are considered “repetitive, mundane - yet unstructured”.

Applicability

We have built an AI platform that integrates vision, grasping and placement to create autonomous solutions for complex commercial problems. While we have our current product, SORT, in production across North America fulfillment centers, our AI technology rivals the humans ability to pick and place- which can be applied throughout many different products and industries.
